They can be purchased directly fromAppleor at a variety of retailers, from Amazon to Best Buy.

But how does all of this work?

Well, unlike what you may typically think of for a tracking gadget, AirTags dont use GPS.

Find My picks it up from there and translates the location to a map on your screen.

Having an AirTag on hand can save the day when your carry-on luggage is forced into the dreadedgate-check.

It can also provide extra security in situations where your luggage storage options feel less than ideal.

Of course, its not only luggage that you’re able to track with an AirTag.

Finally, as Whitson notes, AirTags can be a huge security aid for families traveling with small children.

Before traveling, stitch an Apple AirTag in the tongue of a childs sneaker, Whitson suggests.
