Last summer I spent five days surveying three of the new arrivals.

Although it was high season, I wouldnt have known it from the idyllic pace.

In addition, there are three villas, the largest spread across 7,100 square feet.

The estate, meanwhile, has been replanted with grapevines and citrus and olive trees.

Despite the comforts, Son Bunyola still feels tied to the elements.

Son Nets palatial, ivy-covered mansion exudes a lived-in feeling.

There are also nods to Mallorcas Arab past.

Walking into the soaring lobby felt like entering a Gothic cathedral.

It has an ornately carved wooden ceiling and walls draped with sumptuous tapestries and darkened oil paintings.

Theyre defending our history.

Some rooms occupy renovated stables and granaries and have expansive glass doors leading to sunny porches.

It was only a half hours drive to Cape Formentor, a dramatic promontory at Mallorcas northernmost point.

At dusk, the nearby beach was all but empty.
